i'm encountering a headache for some reason. apparently, even though i am in an air conditioned place, with a window that shows me a nice view of the singapore flyer and the sky, i still feel as though i'm dizzy. spinning headache-y dizzy.
ah well. i shall now try and cure my headache by entertaining you guys and talking about this anime i have ever so recently been so enamoured by: HETALIA: AXIS POWERS~!
Has anyone ever imagined countries being personified as humans? That the country of America would be a young, brash , nonsensical kid who loves burgers , being a hero and thinks he's awesome? Or the idea that Italy would be a slacking, lazy kid who's a bit dumb, surrenders a lot and loves pasta , cats , siestas , but still a very cheerful, happy , silly kid?
welcome to the world of Hetalia: Axis Powers , where countries can be very silly and very true to their characters , thus causing the silliness. Set mostly in WW2 context, while the story focuses on many countries, especially those from the Allied Forces ( China, England, America, Russia and France) and the Axis Powers ( The three big ones, Italy , Germany and Japan), the main story is centred around the hetare ( useless ) italy . The name hetalia itself is a pun on how the japanese pronounce italy in japanese ( Italia) and the word "hetare' , thus making a pun on the fact tt italy is rather useless .
Indeed, as we see in the series, italy , ( the brown haired brunette in the pic) is very slack as a country, whose only talents include cooking pasta, painting and i think soccer. That's why its a good thing ( in italy's view, although germany might say the opp) that italy has two other allies: Germany : a blonde, no nonsense tall man who lives by the rules and the code of a soldier; and Japan, a quiet, shy individual whose modesty, humble and rather like a housewife. With them , along with the crazy Allied Forces, the anime is a great way to laugh at world history. Most of these stories are actually based off real historical facts eg. France's proposal to England ( a hilarious story, by the way) is actually based off the French Minister's idea to join England to become the great british french union. Don't ask why.
Each anime episode is only around 5 mins long, so if you need a laugh , love world history but do not have the time to do so, i reckon five mins is good enough for you guys so that it doesn't take up much of your time, but however still hilarious. Besides, you can actually learn stuff from this anime!
So far, my fav character is still Italy ( cause i love italy, and i identify with much of what it does, being stuff that i usually do as well) but i love most of the characters they have there. France is funny as this guy who loves to be fashionable and cooks really well, Russia brings the house down ( my god, he does feel like he'll do so , huh) as the seemingly calm cheerful guy, but who has this thing about conquering other countries (" Soon, they'll all become one with Russia") and being so extremely scary that he frightens the Baltic Brothers . America as this brash crazy guy whose idea of solving global warming includes building a giant metal hero that would shield the earth from the sun is really silly, but adorable. All in all, the creator has seriously captured the essence for each personifies country, with all its good, bad and seriously weird points .I'll rate it 3.5 stars out of 5.
